Logan Gilbert, born May 5, 1997, in Winter Park, Florida, is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB).[1][4][8] Standing 6'6" and weighing 215 pounds, the right-handed starter was drafted 14th overall in the first round by the Mariners out of Stetson University in 2018.[2][6][8] At Stetson, Gilbert excelled, posting a career 2.38 ERA, ranking second in program history, with accolades including ASUN Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore in 2017 (10-0, 2.02 ERA, 107 strikeouts in 89 innings).[1][2][5] He earned All-America honors in 2018 and shone in summer leagues, such as the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Orleans Firebirds, where he was an all-star.[1][2] Gilbert debuted in MLB on May 13, 2021, securing his first win on June 6 against the Los Angeles Angels (seven strikeouts, one run in five innings).[1] In his rookie year, he went 6-5 with a 4.68 ERA over 24 starts.[1] His first full season in 2022 featured a breakout 13-6 record, 3.20 ERA, and 185⅔ innings in 32 starts, despite high line-drive and exit-velocity rates.[1][3] In 2023, Gilbert pitched his first shutout on July 4 against the San Francisco Giants (seven strikeouts), won AL Player of the Week honors, and struck out 12 Padres on August 8; he finished 13-7 with a 3.73 ERA, 189 strikeouts, and the AL's third-best strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.25).[1] He started Game 1 of the 2022 AL Division Series.[1] Currently active as Mariners pitcher #36, Gilbert remains a key rotation member on a competitive team, embodying resilience and pitch mix including a 95 mph fastball, slider, and changeup.[3][4][6] As of recent stats, he maintains a 3.43 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.[6]
